Crete is the largest island in Greece and the fifth largest one in the Meditarenean Sea.

Crete has 4 main regional units : Heraklion , Chania , Rethymno , Lasithi.Chania and Rethymno on the western side, Heraklion and Lassithi on the eastern side. The northern coasts of Crete are more developed in tourism, while the southern coasts keep a more secluded environment. Holidays in Crete can be both busy or secluded, depending on your preferences.

    Heraklion -The largest and most densely populate region on the island of Crete is Heraklion. It hosts many busy places with intense nightlife, including Malia, Hersonissos, Ammoudara and Agia Pelagia, but also many peaceful family places, particularly on the southern side. As Heraklion Greece was the main field where the Minoan civilization flourished, you should not miss a visit to the Minoan Palaces of Knossos and Phaestos. A drive around Heraklion in Crete will also bring you to traditional villages, Medieval castles, Byzantine monasteries and nice beach places to relax.

    Rethymno Region -Rethimnon is a city that caters to the needs of the visitor. Located between the popular regions of Heraklion and Chania.There are a lot of places to stay ranging from luxury hotels to rent a room, bed and breakfast apartment buildings. Night life can range from extremely intense on the pubs and bars around the harbor and inside the old city to relaxed on small bars right on the beach. There is always fresh fish to be found in the tavernas around the harbor and there are many other restaurants and tavernas outside the city in equally attractive surroundings. Shopping could also be interesting at Rethimno. There are lots of small shops with attractive merchantise from souvenirs, cards, etc to the most rare kind of sponge.

    Lassithi Region - Welcome to the easternmost and least mountainous region of Crete. Although it has some popular places, including Elounda, Sissi, Sitia and Ierapetra, the rest of the region is authentic and away from mass tourism The mythical palm tree forest of Váï, the Gulf of Mirabello, the windmills on the Plateau of Lassíthi (the largest in Crete), beaches lapped by crystalline water, beautiful cities and luxurious hotel resorts all make up a rather fascinating world.

    Chania Region -The westernmost side of Crete, Chania is a wonderful place for vacations. The Town is a romantic place to stroll around, with Medieval architecture, elegant mansions and a wonderful Venetian port, the most famous spot of the town. In close distance to Chania Town, there are many tourist beaches and hotels. However, you should not also miss excursions around the region to discover the fabulous spots of Chania: Balos, Elafonissi, Paleochora, Sfakia, Falassarna and Samaria Gorge. All beaches have crystal water and each one offers a unique experience, from the most tourist to the most secluded beach. The natural beauty of the area is amazing.
